Pre-construction inventory of assets & equipment completed in record time

SITUATION

VTS capture crews were deployed in a matter of days to scan rooftop assets for pre-construction planning.

Rooftops are home to a host of telecom assets and equipment including antennas, cables and cabinets. The vertical digital documentation of assets VTS captures is needed for all the stages of construction and design.

Hundreds of scans needed to be completed in record time for the design and construction planning for 5G site upgrades. The asset owners needed a precise inventory of every piece of equipment, the access points for construction and the existing electrical and power capacity.

CHALLENGES

Our Telecom partner came to VTS with a list of buildings for pre-construction site walks in Chicago that needed 3D laser scanning completed in record time. That same week, VTS had teams deploying in Los Angeles. Each building presented unique challenges. Every piece of equipment, asset, and access point had to be captured with 100% accuracy, following specific protocols.

Scheduling and logistics went into action with plans and communication in motion.  VTS capture technicians were deployed to Chicago to hit the ground running. There were hurdles to overcome at each site including access issues, language barriers and heat. Simultaneously, techs in training were shadowing and learning from the seasoned techs on the job. The QA process was fine tuned to the specific client needs and requirements.

SOLUTIONS

The operations team scaled an onboarding and training process 100% focused on overcoming challenges and driving for high quality data. Each capture technician had hands-on training and shadowed more experienced technicians until they were proficient. During the length of the project, the time from start to delivery of completed files was reduced by 50%.

WIN

With teamwork and support, hundreds of accurate files were delivered on time and on budget to the client. Quality & Assurance process improvements helped accelerate turnaround times.

Our client met their deadline to deliver files that were critical to design and upgrades for 5G in Chicago. The success has enabled VTS to expand VTS’ scope to new markets.
